Position Description: Senior Accountant
The Senior Accountant is a key player in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of the company's financial records. This role focuses on maintaining precise General Ledger (GL) entries, performing detailed month-end reconciliations, and supporting various accounting functions. The Senior Accountant collaborates closely with site locations, handles journal entries, manages intercompany transactions, supports audits, and contributes to internal reporting and process improvements.
Key Responsibilities
Month-End Reconciliation and Reporting:
- Prepare and review month-end reconciliations and supporting schedules for GL entries. Ensure all reconciling items are promptly identified and resolved to maintain accurate financial records.
Journal Entries:
- Prepare journal entries for a variety of accounting areas, including:
- Cash
- Accounts Payable (AP)
- Accrued Expenses
- Payroll
- Accounts Receivable (AR)
- Debt
- Stock-Based Compensation
- Lease
- Goodwill and Intangibles
- Fixed Assets
- Prepaids
- Ensure that all entries are recorded correctly and align with company policies.
- Prepare journal entries for a variety of accounting areas, including:
Intercompany Reconciliation:
- Work with Fortis site locations to reconcile intercompany transactions. Investigate and resolve discrepancies to ensure accurate month-end financial reporting.
Audit Support:
- Collaborate with the company’s audit firm during year-end audits. Provide necessary documentation and support to facilitate a smooth audit process.
Financial Close Documentation:
- Document financial statement close process activities. Maintain effective controls and ensure that all financial close procedures are properly documented.
Acquisition Entries:
- Record acquisition-related entries and track adjustments related to the acquisition measurement period. Ensure that all acquisition-related transactions are accurately reflected in the financial statements.
P&L Review:
- Review Profit & Loss (P&L) statements to ensure proper coding and presentation of costs. Adjust coding as necessary to accurately reflect expenses.
Cost Allocations:
- Track and record corporate cost allocations. Ensure that all cost allocations are accurate and comply with company policies.
Month-End Close Checklist:
- Maintain and manage the month-end close checklist to ensure timely completion of month-end and quarter-end close processes.
Financial Statement Preparation:
- Collect and provide information needed for the preparation of annual financial statements. Ensure that all required data is accurate and submitted on time.
Internal Reporting and Requests:
- Assist with internal ad-hoc reporting and special requests. Provide timely and accurate information to support various internal stakeholders.
Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree: A degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required. An advanced degree or professional certification (e.g., CPA) is a plus.
Experience:
- General Corporate Accounting: 5-8 years of experience in corporate accounting roles, with a strong background in financial reconciliation, journal entries, and reporting.
Skills:
- Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills: Excellent analytical skills with the ability to solve complex accounting issues and identify discrepancies.
- Organizational Skills: Strong organizational abilities to manage multiple tasks and deadlines effectively.
- Independence and Teamwork: Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
Technical Proficiency:
- Microsoft Excel: Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel is required for data analysis and reporting.
- Accounting Software: Experience with accounting software systems is necessary for efficient financial management and reporting.
