Position Summary
Jackson State University (JSU), a proud member of NCAA Division I (FCS) and the Southwestern Athletic Conference, is inviting applications for the position of Assistant Director of Sports Media. Qualifications
Minimum Required Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree: A degree in journalism, mass communications, English, or a related field is preferred. This educational background provides the foundational skills necessary for effective communication and media management in a sports context.
Minimum Required Experience:
- Professional Experience: At least two years of experience in a communications or journalism role, with a focus on college or professional sports. Experience in web content management is essential for maintaining and enhancing the university’s online presence.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Content Development:
- Develop and execute content themes and concepts aimed at promoting JSU’s athletic teams, events, and initiatives. This includes planning and creating written content that aligns with the university’s branding and communication goals.
Press Releases and Game Stories:
- Write and distribute press releases, game stories, and other media materials to highlight athletic achievements and upcoming events. Ensure that all content is accurate, engaging, and consistent with the university’s messaging.
Statistical Management:
- Compile and maintain statistical information related to JSU’s athletic programs. Ensure that all data is up-to-date and accurately reflects the performance of teams and athletes.
Web Page Maintenance:
- Oversee the maintenance and updating of the athletics web page. This involves ensuring that the site is current, visually appealing, and provides relevant information to the audience.
Social Media and Digital Content Creation:
- Create and manage content for social media platforms and other digital channels. Utilize various media formats, including text, images, and video, to engage with the JSU community and promote athletic events.
Media Coordination:
- Coordinate with media and sports information offices of competing institutions and conferences to effectively disseminate results and updates. Maintain professional relationships with media contacts to enhance coverage of JSU athletics.
