The School of Humanities and Sciences (H&S) serves as the cornerstone of a liberal arts education at Stanford University, housing 23 departments and 25 interdisciplinary programs. Stanford Political Science, an academic department comprising over 40 Academic Council faculty members and approximately 150 undergraduate majors and minors, alongside 90+ graduate students, seeks a proactive and organized Assistant Director of Finance and Operations. In this leadership role within the department, you will oversee financial budgeting, approve departmental and faculty accounts, and support various administrative operations. Reporting to the Director of Finance and Operations, this position offers a 100% FTE continuing appointment, potentially allowing for a hybrid telecommuting arrangement based on operational needs.

Core Duties:

  • Conduct complex data analyses, reconcile accounts, and identify and resolve multifaceted issues spanning multiple areas.
  • Compile and analyze data for budgeting and decision-making, providing high-level recommendations and developing annual budgets.
  • Execute internal control programs, research regulations, and implement approved changes, potentially managing compliance programs.
  • Prepare and present reports and presentations of complex financial data and metrics for management and external parties.
  • Participate in project teams, contribute to strategic initiatives, and develop change management plans as needed.
  • Create and maintain process documentation, define requirements, implement test cases, and identify opportunities for process improvement.
  • Provide consulting advice to client groups, offering expertise on technical, financial, or subject matter matters.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree and four years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Advanced proficiency in business applications, especially Microsoft Office suite with a focus on Excel.
  • Familiarity with financial systems, internet tools, and computer literacy.
  • Understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and effectively.
  • Project management skills with the ability to lead or contribute to multi-functional teams.
  • Expected pay range: $78,000 to $118,000 per annum.
